Gilberto Silva has either ruled out or refused the chance to take over as Arsenal sporting director after Edu Gaspar announced his departure.

The Gunners confirmed Edu’s sudden departure earlier this month, with the player reportedly set to join fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

During an interview with Ufabet Sports, Gilberto was asked if he had spoken to Edu since the announcement of his departure, to which he replied: “We exchanged a few messages, but I didn’t ask him why he made that decision.”

“Edu is a great guy. I think it was a tough decision for him to leave the club and I wish him all the best. He has done a great job and I think the club will miss him. He works well with Mikel to balance Arsenal.”

“To be honest, it was a big surprise for me, but sometimes it happens and I hope he enjoys the next challenge, whatever he decides to do.”

Asked if he would be interested in the job, Gilberto said: “I still work with the club in an ambassadorial capacity. It’s not something I plan to do in the next few years. Although I did it in the past with Panathinaikos. In the last few years I have been working in a different direction in football and with Arsenal.”

“I don’t know. I’ve been preparing myself for the last two or three years and some clubs in Brazil have contacted me. But I decided not to accept the job. I’m not Register ufabet saying it now. But it’s always good to be close to Arsenal as an ambassador for the club.”
