Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has defended Darwin Nunez during a live Q&A session with fans and compared him to his former team-mate Roberto Firmino.
Nunez has endured a difficult season, scoring just three goals in 18 appearances despite consistently getting regular playing time, with Jamie Carragher predicting Liverpool could sell him at the end of the season.
However, Salah has dismissed the criticism and praised Nunez, saying he enjoys playing with the Uruguayan as much as he did with Firmino.
By early December 2023, they were assisting each other at such a rate that had they continued, they would have set a Premier League record.
In total they have played together 96 times and created 16 goals for each other.
Having a self-sacrificial creator is important to Salah and often gets the best out of him if they can create space for him to cut inside, or feed him with one-twos.
After Firmino left, Salah was glowing in his praise: ยูฟ่าเบท ‘He just plays for the team. He doesn’t really care about scoring that much, he just wants to enjoy his game and just play football and wants the team to win.’ Firmino won seven trophies with the Reds.
“Who do I like playing with the most? It’s always Firmino, but I feel like I like playing with Nunez overall,” Salah replied to a fan’s question. “
Even though a lot of people don’t like him, I like playing with him. I saw Baha (the person who asked the question) shaking his head like he doesn’t like Nunez. “
But (laughs) I really like playing with him overall. He’s a different kind of player, and not everyone understands how he plays.”
